Holsinger CPE Day 2022
On December 6, 2022, the Holsinger team held its eighth CPE Day, where the firm’s clients and friends joined together to learn and earn CPE credits. When this event was started eight years ago, it was an in person gathering with talented speakers, both outside and inside the Holsinger, sharing the latest updates and topics related to the accounting and tax industry. This year, the team continued the virtual meeting set up, established three years ago when all of the world went virtual at the start of the COVID pandemic.
Morning Portion of CPE Day
To kickoff the full day of CPE, Cynthia Busin Nicola, Ed.D, CM, a tenured Professor of Business Management at Carlow University, shared four thought-provoking presentationcynthia busin nicola, professor at Carlow universitys on ethics which provided participants 4.0 Ethics CPE credits. Dr. Nicola holds two professional certifications – Certified Manager (through the Institute of Certified Professional Managers), and Ethical Leadership (through the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy). She has over 31 years full-time teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels and has presented at numerous international conferences during her tenure on a variety of topics. The ethics topics she covered during this CPE day were: “The History of Ethics”, “International Ethics”, “AI - Uses in Accounting, Investigation, and Legal Fields”, and “Ethics in the Art World”.
Afternoon Portion of CPE Day
In the afternoon, the Holsinger Audit Team shared relevant audit updates to give participants 1.5 A&A CPE credits. The presenting team was comprised of Rachel Schmiedlin, Audit Manager; William Godfrey, Audit Senior Manager; and Larry Diday, Audit Senior Manager. The team covered updates and current issues around: FASB Accounting Standards, COVID-19 Accounting and Auditing, Pension Plans, Not-for-Profit, Single Audit, Lease Accounting (FAS ASC 842), and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).
To conclude the day, the Holsinger Tax Team shared relevant tax updates to give participants 2.5 Tax CPE credits. The presenting team was comprised of Jessica Moslander, holsinger tax teamTax Manager; Andy Bianco, Shareholder; Wil Stunkel, Director; and Bill Collier, Shareholder. Jessica shared updates regarding available tax credits related to the Inflation Reduction Act and other credits. She ended her portion talking about multistate issues around remote workers and employee holdings. Andy then shared numerous individual and business tax updates including the upcoming Sunsetting Tax Provisions. Wil provided updates regarding Employee Retention Credits (ERC) that originated from the CARES Act. Bill ended the day with a view of Washington (US Executive and Legislative Branches) and anticipated implications for tax law changes.
Summary of the CPE Day by its participants
For participants that attended the full day, they will receive 8 CPE credits and certificate emailed to the email used at registration. Several participants provided feedback about the day saying, “I really enjoyed the day and the ethics speaker this year”, “Very good CPE and I hope to do more in the future”, “Thank you very much for an interesting and informative day!”, and “It was an excellent CPE day with many relevant topics.” The Holsinger team is also very happy with how the day turned out and really appreciates the opportunity to share information with their clients and friends.
Holsinger CPE Day 2023
With another successful CPE day completed, the firm looks forward to doing it again next year. This year’s participants gave lots of great possible subjects to consider for next year as well as the majority liking the virtual meeting option over doing the day in person. Without the “crystal ball” to know the future, the team will see what develops further during 2023 to further develop 2023 Holsinger CPE Day.
